Itlaian heirloom variety. Upright elongated heads made of dark green and white leaves that mature to a deep red. Leaves are crunchy and have slightly bitter flavour and are used both raw as a salad green and cooked as a vegetable.

Named after the town Trevisio in Italy where it originates from. Plants do best in cooler weather; growing in cooler weather produces heads that are sweeter and more red in colour. Heads grown in warmer weather tend to deveopl a more bitter flavour. Can be grown in containers. Is a good variety for growing baby leaves.

In late autumn when temperatures fall, the outer leaves will close together tightly to form heads and the colours will form and intensify.
